What am I trying to say with my photography? That's one question. Another is, is there a unifying question? Alternatively, do the pictures not speak for themselves, either resonating with the viewer or or not? If not, does it matter?
All this and more of course. Or less - much less - a whole lot simpler: Don't ask, just act. It is tempting of course, but the questions about my pictures arise from time to time and I feel I ought to explore some more. Beauty? Yeah, sure, that's part of it. But more, there's much more.
A video, And the Sea will Talk to You, for which participants / observers are encouraged to sit in the inflated inner tubes that serve as floatation devices for those trying to make the treacherous crossing from Cuba to America, "illegally", to start a new life. A shame photos can't convey smell because the odour of rubber in the room really made the experience something immersive (sic). Runs until October 23rd. Details here. An interesting exhibition made all the more relevant by the news relating to those drowning in the Mediterranean in their desperate attempts to leave Syria and Africa.
